Why Do People Gain More Weight During the Holidays than Any Other Time of Year?

You may be wondering why it is that people gain more weight during the winter holidays than any other time of year. A study was done in
the early 2000’s by the National Institutes of Health that determined
just that. They determined the following things about Americans:

  • The average American gained 1.8 lbs from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.
  • Overweight and obese Americans before the holidays were more likely to gain 5 lbs. or more during that 6 week period.
  • The biggest two factors in weight gain were lack of activity and excess hunger.
  • The weight that is gained at that time of year is never lost .

The excess hunger at this time of year is most likely due to the excess amount of refined sugar and carbohydrates that people consume throughout the season. The more of them you eat, the more hungry you will be every few hours. These foods immediately spike insulin – the fat-storing hormone that will keep them out of fat-burning mode for up to 48 hours. These substances also causes individuals to feel lethargic which could explain why many are less active, lounging, relaxing, and overeating the holidays away.

So for each time that an individual consumes refined sugar and carbs, they will spend the next 24-48 hours in FAT-STORING mode. Doesn’t it make sense then that daily consumption of sugar and carbs will result in some people actually spending every single day of the holiday season in FAT-STORING mode as opposed to FAT-BURNING. Ouch!

Worse than gaining all that weight is the fact that this study revealed that the weight that is gained at that time of year is never lost so there is an accumulation of excess weight put on every year over the course of Americans’ lifetimes that could lead to obesity due to that lack of weight loss after the holidays.

Think about it – where will you be 10 years from now if you gain 5 lbs. every Christmas? You’ll be 50 lbs. heavier. Isn’t it time to pay attention, do a little proactive weight gain prevention during the season and give yourself the gift of good health this year?

This is really a pet peeve with me. There are many programs out there that are simply scams and do not work. If you are looking at this, you need to be careful and so your due diligence.

Have you ever considered an online weight loss program before or even looked at one? Online programs are designed to help people, possibly just like you and me, who want to lose weight and lose it bad. I have been there and you may be there now.  What is cool about online lose weight programs is that they are online and you can do I from the comfort of your own home and at your convenience, You gotta admit that is nice for those who have busy and hectic schedules with kids, family, church, school and; crazy schedules that may not allow them to be a part of locally operated programs.

If you have never joined an online program before for weight loss, you may be wondering if there is even a right one right for you.  You may have looked at many of them and fund nothing that made any sense. That happens a lot. One feature that you may not necessarily think of, but one that is important, is that of an online message boards or a community section.  Community sections are often comprised of online message boards. These sections often allow you to communicate with other online weight loss program members or group leaders.  This communication is nice as it may help to give you motivation.  You may even find an online weight loss buddy or partner to help you on your journey.

Guaranteed results or free trial periods are another sign that an online weight loss program may be worth the money. Often times, many individuals are unsure as to whether or not they should pay to join an online weight loss program, as they do not know for sure that they will lose weight. A large number of online weight loss programs give you the ability to test out their programs free of charge and then there are others that give you guaranteed results.  With guarantees like these, online weight loss programs are more then worth their costs.

The above mentioned points are just a few of the many that may be able to help you decide whether or not joining an online weight loss program is worth the cost. If you are able to find an online weight loss program with a free trial period or even just one with affordable membership rates, you may want to think about giving it a shot.

Consider this: if you only lost 2 pounds a week, you could be 20 pounds thinner in less than 3 months.   40+ pounds in 6 months.  Don’t take chances with your health and don’t, for goodness sakes, kid yourself that you can fight nature, beat the odds, and do what the body was not designed to do.
